BioPoly Signs Exclusive Distribution Agreement with Hospital Innovations in the UK
July 24, 2019
FORT WAYNE, IN – BioPoly, LLC has entered into an exclusive distribution agreement with UK-based distributor, Hospital Innovations Ltd, to distribute the BioPoly® partial resurfacing family of products throughout the UK. Hospital Innovations, founded in 2008, supplies a growing range of specialty products for use in orthopaedic and corrective surgery. Herb Schwartz, BioPoly President, said “We at BioPoly are very excited to be partnering with Hospital Innovations in the UK. Their knowledgeable and experienced team will represent BioPoly’s growing product portfolio very well as they expand the market and provide the best service to the UK orthopaedic surgeon customers.”
BioPoly has a number of products that resurface different areas of the knee, patella, and shoulder. The BioPoly® material is a proprietary combination of a synthetic polymer (ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene) and hyaluronic acid, a lubricating molecule found in joint fluid. The material is essentially a “self-lubricated” polymer that is extremely biocompatible with native tissues such as cartilage and meniscus. After it is implanted, the BioPoly® material attracts joint fluid to its surface for lubrication, similar to native cartilage; thus, BioPoly implants function as synthetic cartilage and can be used to replace damaged cartilage (i.e. partially resurface) in joints. The BioPoly family of partial resurfacing products (RS Knee, RS Patella, RS Trochlea, and RS Shoulder) are CE marked; however, they are not yet FDA approved in the US.
