American Bone Health presents free, on-demand virtual Spine Health Workshop Series
Sessions designed to empower consumers with tips to prevent vertebral fractures
June 17, 2021 – American Bone Health invites consumers and health care providers to participate in a free, on-demand Spine Health Workshop series. The interactive virtual workshop is designed to empower consumers to protect their spine bones from fractures so they can maintain their independence and quality of life. Spine Health Workshop content is available for viewing at AmericanBoneHealth.org/abhspine. The program is presented by American Bone Health with an educational grant from Medtronic.
Consisting of two sessions presented by nationally renowned experts in spine health, the Spine Health Workshop will empower consumers with information on osteoporosis, tips to prevent fractures, and pointers on proper posture and body mechanics. Content includes videos, homework, pre- and post-session knowledge assessments, and other downloadable and online resources to help consumers get the most out of their experience. Sessions are as follows:
Session 1, “Introduction to Spine Health”: Presented by Thomas Andreshak, MD, orthopedic spine surgeon with Consulting Orthopedic Associates, Toledo, Ohio. Topics to be covered include osteoporosis, bone health screening and diagnosis, and treatment of vertebral compression fractures (VCFs).
Session 2, “Posture Power”: Presented by Susan Feldman, PT, PhD, physical therapist with Mount Sinai Health System, New York. Topics to be covered include postural alignment for everyday activities, exercises to improve posture, and strategies to prevent fractures of the spine bones.
“Vertebral fractures are the most common broken bones associated with osteoporosis, so the Spine Health Workshop fills a need for a consumer-friendly program focused on protecting the spine,” says Cheryl Hostinak, Executive Director of American Bone Health. “Consumers will come away from this experience understanding practical steps they can take to protect their spines, such as improved posture, good body mechanics, and strengthening exercises. We hope health care providers will find the Spine Health Workshop a useful resource they can share with patients, and that consumers will share this information with friends and family members who can benefit from it.”
