Gailey, M.D., a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in Sports Medicine, to its Downtown Augusta and Evans locations. Dr. Gailey provides comprehensive care for sports-related injuries and musculoskeletal conditions in patients of all ages and activity levels, with a focus on helping patients return to the activities they enjoy.
Dr. Gailey specializes in both operative and non-operative treatment of sports-related injuries, with particular expertise in minimally invasive procedures involving the knee, shoulder and hip. His clinical interests include ACL and meniscal tears, rotator cuff tears, shoulder instability and labral injuries, hip labral tears associated with femoroacetabular impingement, cartilage injuries, tendon tears and ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) injuries.
Dr. Gailey also specializes in shoulder arthroplasty and performs shoulder, knee and hip replacements. His research covers fracture care, joint replacement and sports and traumatic injuries.
Dr. Gailey completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Campbell Clinic in Memphis, Tennessee, where he received strong training in orthopaedic trauma and fracture care. He then completed a Sports Medicine fellowship at Andrews Sports Medicine in Birmingham, Alabama, where he gained substantial experience treating collegiate and professional athletes.
During his fellowship, Dr. Gailey served as a team physician for the University of West Alabama and Shelby County High School and assisted with coverage for the University of Alabama. His additional experience includes the Memphis Redbirds, Birmingham Barons, Alabama Ballet, University of West Alabama Football and Rodeo, Shelby County High School Football and University of Alabama Football.

Dr. Gailey earned his medical degree from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and a Master of Science in Pharmacology from Tulane University School of Medicine. He earned his undergraduate degree in biology and economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with a minor in chemistry.
He is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is affiliated with Piedmont Augusta Hospital.
Originally from Asheville, North Carolina, Dr. Gailey enjoys outdoor activities, basketball, cooking, traveling, live music and time with his wife and dogs. Since moving to Augusta, he’s also developing an appreciation for golf.
