The Riverside Co. acquires Australian manufacturer and distributor of orthopedic implants
Global Orthopaedic supplies implants and instrumentation for hip, knee, shoulder and spine surgeries, along with related orthobiologics. It has two research, design and manufacturing facilities in Bella Vista and Seven Hills in New South Wales
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Riverside said in a news release that it is bringing two new executives to the Australian company: Andrew Fox-Smith, a former group president with Stryker Corp. who has more than two decades of experience in the global orthopedic industry, and Duncan Lilley, who most recently held senior roles with British Standards Institution and SAI Global. Fox-Smith will serve as CEO of Global Orthopaedic, and Lilley will be chief operating officer.
Global was formed in 1999 by Mike Ribot and Steve Banks and “has grown to become the largest Australia-owned orthopedic implant designer and manufacturer,” Riverside said in its news release. Ribot and Banks will continue to be involved with Global as shareholders and senior managers.
Riverside partner Simon Feiglin said in the release that Global Orthopaedic “has an enviable product portfolio and a history of innovation. They’re a growing company in an expanding market thanks to offering products and services that are valued by surgeons and relied upon by patients in Australia and increasingly around the world.”
Riverside said it has made more than 70 investments in the health care sector.
