Mazor Robotics Co-Founder and CTO, Professor Moshe Shoham, joins new members honored at 50th annual NAE Meeting

ORLANDO, Fla., September 30, 2014 – Earlier this week, Mazor Robotics Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Professor Moshe Shoham, was honored at the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. All new members were recognized as they celebrated the organization’s 50th anniversary. This past February, Prof. Shoham was elected into the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) for contributions to robotic technology for image-guided surgery.

Prof. Shoham continues to strive to make a major impact in the healthcare arena with what some have called “disruptive technology”. “On one hand, it is difficult because introducing new technology means we need to create awareness in the market and ultimately make considerable changes to the current operating workflow,” said Prof. Shoham. “On the other hand, my vision is to bring real value to the patients and the company and that will take perseverance and hard work.” Read the story of how Mazor Robotics was founded.

Prof. Shoham was recognized by the NAE for his “outstanding contributions to engineering research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature,” and for the “pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education.”

Coming up, Prof. Shoham will speak at the Forum for Innovations in Moscow on October 15. He will join other participants to discuss, “Medical Robotics: Care, Cure, and Comfort.”

Prof. Shoham currently acts as head of the Robotics Laboratory at Technion, Israel Institute of Technology, as well as the Tamara and Harry Handelsman Academic Chair in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
