Spine Wave Announces the Full Commercial Launch of the Lateral Access Product Portfolio

The Lateral Access Product Portfolio Now Includes the StaXx® IBL Expandable Interbody Device, the Abacus™ Lateral Spacer System and the XLR® Lateral Access System

SHELTON, CT–(Marketwired – Oct 14, 2014) – Spine Wave, Inc. is a medical device company dedicated to leveraging its proprietary technology and expertise to provide spine surgeons with a broad, differentiated portfolio of expandable and other less invasive, more efficient solutions to real surgical challenges. Today Spine Wave announces that it has formally released the Lateral Access Product Portfolio for full commercial launch. The Lateral Access Product Portfolio along with the recently introduced Annex® Adjacent Level System will be showcased at the upcoming Congress of Neurological Surgeons meeting in Boston.

The Lateral Access Product Portfolio consists of the previously released StaXx® XDL Expandable Device and the just released StaXx® IBL Expandable Interbody Device, the Abacus™ Lateral Spacer System, the XLR® Lateral Access System and a full complement of disposable accessories. With this suite of products, Spine Wave is now able to offer spine surgeons multiple expandable implant options as well as a more traditional non-expandable PEEK implant. The StaXx® XDL and IBL Expandable Devices utilize Spine Wave’s proprietary stackable technology. The novel XLR® Lateral Access Retractor allows intra-operative flexibility, customizable exposure and exceptional stability. As part of the commercial launch, Spine Wave recently conducted a course attended by 17 surgeons.

Prof. Dr. med. Jürgen Harms, Ethianum Klinik, Heidelberg, Germany, has been the driving force behind Spine Wave’s entry into the lateral segment of the spine market. “I have been using the Spine Wave expandable system for nearly three years,” said Professor Harms. “The low profile implant can be gently inserted, rather than malleted in, which helps to minimize endplate disruption, a variable which can contribute to subsidence. The expansion capabilities allow me to customize the height of the implant in situ and this optimized height can be an important factor in establishing sagittal balance. I have been very pleased with the results I have been able to obtain and I now use expandable implants exclusively for my direct lateral procedures.”

“We are very excited by our entrance into this market segment,” said Mark LoGuidice, Spine Wave Chief Executive Officer. “In time we expect the current and future StaXx® Expandable Devices to advance the lateral surgical approach, much like our flagship StaXx® XD Expandable Device has advanced the posterior surgical approach.”
