Spineology, Inc. Receives Patent Allowance for Percutaneous Spinal Fusion Approach

Spineology, Inc., the innovator in anatomy-conserving spine surgery, is excited to announce that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued a Notice of Allowance for its U.S. Application Serial Number 12/650,889, entitled “System and Method for Performing Percutaneous Spinal Interbody Fusion.”

A major trend in spinal surgery is reducing the invasiveness of surgical procedures. Reducing surgical invasiveness has been shown to reduce post-operative discomfort and long-term morbidity leading to reduced hospitalization and quicker patient recovery. This patent covers methods of performing percutaneous spinal fusion procedures through an opening of less than one centimeter.

“The implant and instrumentation methods covered in this patent exemplify Spineology’s commitment to the development of a truly anatomy-conserving technology (ACTTM) product platform,” said John Booth, CEO of Spineology. “This patent allowance establishes Spineology as the leader in percutaneous spinal fusion technology.”

“Percutaneous spinal access, discectomy, and fusion preserves anatomy, more so than any other surgical methodology,” said Karen Roche, vice president of R&D for Spineology. “Preservation of bone, nerve and muscle significantly reduces surgical morbidity and can greatly aid in the improvement of surgical outcomes.”
