Biomet co-founder Dane Miller dies
SOUTH BEND — One of the four founders of Warsaw-based medical device manufacturer Biomet died Tuesday.
Dane A. Miller, who served as CEO of the company from 1977 to 2006, passed away at the age of 69, the company announced in a news release.
“It is impossible in one short statement to give justice to his impact on our company, on our industry,” current CEO Jeff Binder said in a statement. “Dane Miller was a true pioneer both in regard to the development of new technologies and in the management and development of Biomet’s unique work environment and culture.”
Under Miller’s leadership Biomet grew from a company with $17,000 in revenues in its first fiscal year, to one with more than $2 billion in sales at the time of Miller’s retirement, according to the company.
He approached Biomet’s culture as a “can-do family,” empowering team members to make decisions, take responsible risks and actively respond to the needs of customers, the company said. His biomedical engineering background fueled advancements in biomaterials and implant design that have impacted patients around the world, according to the company.
“Dane’s influence will continue to be felt by our communities, our industry, and the people whose lives he touched,” Binder said.
