Simplify Medical receives CE mark for MRI-compatible cervical artificial disc

Simplify Medical recently announced it has received CE mark for its Simplify Disc

Composed of MRI-friendly materials, the Simplify Disc is a cervical disc replacement designed to eliminate invasive CT scans, reduce radiation exposure and provide a metal-free option to patients, according to a company press release.

The device has endplates designed to be more compliant with the vertebral bodies under loading common to the cervical spine. Additionally, it includes disc heights as small as 4 mm for smaller patient anatomy.

Simplify Disc is designed to provide a range of motion similar to that found with intact natural discs, the release stated.

Simplify Medical plans to begin a U.S. investigational device exemption clinical study in 2015.
