14 Orthopedic surgeons treating professional athletes

Here are 14 orthopedic surgeons who treated professional athletes in the last month.

James Andrews, MD, performed Tommy John surgery on Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez as well as on Kansas City Royals left-handed pitcher Tim Collins.

Dr. Andrews also performed surgery on Blue Jays pitcher Marcus Stoman after he tore his ACL in his left knee.

20-time PGA Tour winner Davis Love III underwent foot surgery performed by David Murphy, MD.

Martin J. O’Malley, MD, performed a successful bone graft surgery for the fifth metatarsal of the right foot of Oklahoma City Thunder starting forward Kevin Durant.

David Altchek, MD, performed ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction surgery on Mets pitcher Zack Wheeler.

Dr. Altchek also performed shoulder surgery on New York Yankees prospect Luis Torrens.

Marc Philippon, MD, performed hip surgery on Newcastle United soccer player Curtis Good.

Thomas Graham, MD, and Mark Schickendantz, MD performed surgery on Cleveland Indians pitcher Gavin Floyd to repair a fracture of the olecranon bone in his right elbow.

University of Minnesota hockey player Connor Reilly underwent knee surgery performed by Robert La Prade, MD.

Kevin Murphy, MD, performed ACL surgery on Portland Timbers midfielder Ben Zemanski.

Steven Mirabello, MD, of Florida Ortho Surgeons, performed knee surgery on Blue Jays outfielder Michael Saunders.

William Meyers, MD, founder of the Vincera Institute in Philadelphia, performed surgery to repair a core muscle injury sustained by Sacramento Kings point guard Darren Collison.

Michael Terry, MD, and Bradley Merk, MD, of Northwest Medicine in Chicago, performed

surgery on Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane to repair a broken collarbone.

Brian Cole, MD, the team physician for the Chicago Bulls, performed knee surgery on Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose.

  1. I bet summer is where a lot of orthopedic surgeons get their money. With basketball finishing up, baseball starting, and preseason football is underway there needs to be surgeons ready to perform surgery almost immediately. I could see a lot of Tommy John surgery during the summer due to how many people are playing baseball during the summer. You hear about that surgery all the time.
