Japan’s Sato Holdings to open software division in Fort Lauderdale

A Japanese company is opening the global headquarters for its new software division in Fort Lauderdale, aiming to bring 200 jobs to the area in three years.

Sato Holdings of Tokyo this year plans to invest $5 million and employ at least 35 people at the new unit named Sato Global Solutions, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.

Founded in 1940 and listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, Sato now is known for making printers for thermal bar-code labels used in health care, retail and other industries for supply-chain management. It also operates factories that make the tags and labels, including some that use radio-frequency ID.

Now, the company wants to build a name for making the software and integrated solutions to manage tags and labels through the supply chain. It is especially keen on software for tags in health care, including hip replacements and other orthopedic implants. And it sees opportunity in software for the booming “Internet of Things” that links devices through sensors and the Internet, executives said.
