MINNEAPOLIS — When compared with conservative treatments, operative treatments of adult spinal deformities result in better health-related quality of life outcomes in patients who have any deformity types, according to a speaker here.
Shay Bess, MD, said the same pattern was followed for all different types of scoliosis deformity groups: The operative cohort had worse baseline quality metrics, but improved more at final follow-up than the nonoperative cohort.
“The operative group, despite having worse health-related quality of life, were similar or better than the nonoperatives at final follow-up and improved on all quality metrics at final follow up,” he said at the Scoliosis Research Society Annual Meeting.
