Amplify™ Surgical, Inc. Announces First Surgical Cases with dualX™ Dual Expanding Interbody Fusion System
MISSION VIEJO, CALIF. (PRWEB) MARCH 06, 2019
Amplify Surgical, Inc., a privately-held spinal device company, focusing on the development and commercialization of minimally-invasive, innovative spinal technologies, today announced the completion of several surgical cases with the dualX Dual Expanding Interbody Fusion System.
The first two lateral lumbar interbody fusion (LLIF) procedures implanting dualX were performed by two spine surgeons, Larry T. Khoo, MD, and Payman R. Emmanuel, MD, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles, CA. These spinal fusion procedures were performed to treat degenerative disc disease in the lumbar spine.
Dr. Khoo also performed a two-level transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) procedure with two dualX devices. “The dualX device was simple to implant and provided for a solid fusion foundation with its bi-planar expansion,” said Dr. Khoo. “We first expanded dualX horizontally to maximize the footprint, and then, we expanded the implant vertically to provide disc height restoration with lordosis. dualX provides the maximum area for bone grafting. Both procedures went well, and our patients are doing great.”
A few weeks later, to treat complex degenerative pathologies in the lumbar spine, the next two dualX devices were implanted in TLIF procedures performed by two orthopedic spine surgeons, Christopher A. Yeung, MD, and Nima Salari, MD, at the Desert Institute for Spine Care (DISC) in Phoenix, AZ.
Dr. Yeung explains, “I chose to use dualX in my TLIF procedure as it provides a compact insertion footprint to accommodate my minimally-invasive approach and a large post-expansion footprint for spinal restoration and bone grafting to ensure a good clinical outcome. In this procedure, I was able to get a good spondylolisthesis reduction and sagittal realignment with lordosis for the patient.”
The dualX technology is comprised of a family of titanium expandable interbody devices designed to be implanted in lateral lumbar interbody fusion (LLIF), posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) and transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) spinal procedures. The dualX portfolio contains varying footprints, heights and degrees of lordosis with post-expansion bone grafting to provide a customized anatomical fit for a clinically-successful fusion environment.
“The dualX system is a comprehensive system of dual expanding implants to restore disc height and sagittal alignment in lumbar spinal fusion procedures,” explained Andy Choi, Chief Executive Officer, Amplify Surgical, Inc. “First, dualX expands horizontally to provide a wide base for stability and spinal support. Then, the implant expands vertically to aide in spinal restoration and to support spinal fusion, the ultimate goal of these procedures.”
The dualX Dual Expanding Interbody Fusion System is in early release and available to a select group of spine surgeons in the United States. The Company looks forward to the general release of dualX during the second quarter of 2019.
