Hoag Orthopedic Institute Named ‘2020-2021 Best Hospital’ by U.S. News & World Report

IRVINE, Calif. [July 28, 2020]  Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI), which performs the most knee and hip joint replacement surgeries in California, has been nationally recognized as a ‘Best Hospital’ in U.S. News & World Report’s 2020-2021 Best Hospitals list. In addition to this distinction, U.S. News has also recognized HOI as ‘High Performing’ in Hip and Knee Replacements for 2020-2021.

“It’s an honor for HOI to once again be included in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals list,” said Jennifer Mitzner, CEO of Hoag Orthopedic Institute. “Our national ranking as a leader in the delivery of high-quality musculoskeletal health care underscores our founding mission of providing improved access to exceptional orthopedic care in the communities we serve, and is an affirmation of our team’s dedication to helping each of our patients reach their goals.”

The annual ‘Best Hospitals’ rankings and ratings, now in their 31st year, are designed to assist patients and doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or elective procedures. With more than one million Americans receiving joint replacements each year, and millions more receiving other orthopedic surgeries, those in pain can use these rankings in identifying the highest performing hospitals and physicians.

For the 2020-21 rankings and ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in 26 specialties, 10 procedures and conditions. The methodologies used in most areas of care in these rankings are based largely on objective measures such as risk-adjusted survival and readmission rates, volume, patient experience, patient safety, and quality of nursing, among other care-related indicators.

“We applaud U.S. News World Report’s efforts to improve transparency in health care and hope that these rankings will help those who need musculoskeletal medical services make informed decisions about their care,” said orthopedic surgeon Robert Gorab, M.D., chief medical officer of Hoag Orthopedic Institute. “As more consumers begin paying closer attention to outcomes and rankings like these, we are confident that care delivery models like HOI will continue to thrive.”

Hoag Orthopedic Institute, the highest volume provider of joint replacements in California, has received consistent recognition from various publications and health care organizations for its patient-focused services since opening in 2010, including topping the U.S. News Best Hospitals List in 2019-2020; 2018-2019; 2017-2018; 2013-2014 and 2012-2013.
