IRVINE, Calif. — April 14, 2021 — Irvine-based Biogennix, an osteobiologics company that develops, manufactures, and distributes proprietary bone graft products used for bone fusion procedures, today announced the launch of its new Agilon® Strip bone grafting product.
Developed with Biogennix’s proprietary TrelCorTM technology, Agilon Strip is the first collagen strip product introduced by Biogennix. Agilon Strip rounds out the company’s TrelCor-based product line-up, joining its granule, block, and moldable bone graft product offerings which first entered the market in 2010. Since then the company has continued to innovate and steadily expand its TrelCor-based product family, the latest being Agilon Strip.
Agilon Strip was designed to maximize direct contact with bone when implanted, boasting one of the highest granule-to-strip ratios on the market today. As featured in a video on the company’s website, the dense packing of TrelCor granules within Agilon Strip allows it to rapidly (within seconds) absorb fluid, transforming into a flexible strip that can be implanted in its original form or easily divided into smaller pieces. Additionally the interconnected porous architecture maximizes its fluid retention capabilities and makes the product highly resistant to compression.
The company’s TrelCor technology continues to draw attention due to its advanced material properties that promote and enhance healing. With TrelCor technology, all granules are covered in a nanocrystalline HCA (hydroxycarbanoapatite) surface. The nanocrystalline structure provides an optimal surface for cell attachment, while HCA, a specialized form of calcium phosphate that mimics natural bone mineral, allows the healing process to begin sooner than with traditional calcium phosphate bone graft products. These advanced material properties, combined with a fully interconnected biomimetic porous architecture, make TrelCor one of the most advanced bone graft technologies on the market.
“Based on the enthusiastic feedback we’ve received from surgeons and distributors, we anticipate the Agilon Strip to be a significant addition to our product offering for spine, extremity, and general orthopedic procedures,” said Dr. Clay Shors, President and co-founder of Biogennix. “We know that many surgeons like to work with strips so we decided to develop what we believe is the best collagen strip on the market. This strip is densely packed with granules, which surgeons love, and has all the same healing benefits of our other established product lines.”
Agilon Strip is FDA cleared for use in general orthopedics and spine procedures and can be blended with both BMA and autograft. Agilon Strip is available in sizes medium (50mm x 25mm) or large (100mm x 25mm).
Biogennix designs, manufactures and distributes all of its products from its Irvine-based facilities.
