LimaCorporate Announces First-Ever Surgery Using the Trabecular Titanium ™ Tibial Plate of the Physica System

SAN DANIELE DEL FRIULI, Italy, May 13, 2021 / PRNewswire / – LimaCorporate ushers in a new era of collaboration and innovation with the 1st surgery using the Trabecular Titanium ™ tibial plate of the Physica system.

On April 29, Dr Ivan De Martino performed his first surgery at the Gemelli IRCCS University Hospital in Rome . Dr De Martino is an orthopedic surgeon trained at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), specializing in the replacement and revision of complex joints in the orthopedic department headed by prof. Giulio Maccauro. Prior to taking up his current position, Dr De Martino worked for seven years at HSS and is one of the surgeon designers of this implant.

At the end of the procedure, Dr De Martino said: “The procedure went well and I am very satisfied with the result. The preparation of the tibial component was quick and easy, and the feeling on impact was good, the implant was well seated and the fixation rock solid. The patient was a young man, and I have no doubts that this implant will help him resume an active life. “

The Physica System TT Tibial Plate was designed by LimaCorporate in collaboration with HSS’s Department of Biomechanics, led by its Director, Timothy Wright , Ph.D., and Director of Device Development, Joseph Lipman . Based in New York City , HSS is the largest academic medical center specializing in musculoskeletal health and is ranked by Newsweek as the world’s premier hospital for orthopedics.

“The engineers and surgeons at HSS have been delighted to participate in this exciting development effort in close collaboration with our colleagues at LimaCorporate,” said Dr. Wright.

Thanks to HSS’s design expertise and over 14 years of innovation in 3D printing and the clinical history of Trabecular Titanium ™ (TT), the TT Tibial Plate of the Physica System is a state-of-the-art implant that allows LimaCorporate to enter the growing cementless total knee market.

The Physica System TT Tibial Plate is designed to provide a more bone-preserving implant with long-term biological fixation compared to standard cemented models. This will provide additional benefits to younger and more active patients.

“We believe that the use of Trabecular Titanium ™ will be a significant advance in the design of the cementless total knee, improving bone integration into the implant and improving outcomes for our patients. Said Dr Thomas Sculco , Chief Surgeon Emeritus of HSS and one of the designers of the TT Tibial Plate.

Luigi Ferrari, CEO of LimaCorporate, commented: “TT Tibial plate is an important addition to the Physica system and will allow LimaCorporate to enter a new segment of the total knee market. This last product represents another important step for us. I am excited about the positive impact this will have in helping surgeons restore the eMotion of movement in their patients. ”
