Kansas Bioscience Authority eyes $600K investment in Spinal Simplicity
A Kansas Bioscience Authority panel is recommending the group invest $600,000 in a Lenexa-based medical device company.
The KBA’s Investment Committee decided late Tuesday to advocate for investing in Spinal Simplicity LLC, which makes an implantable device designed to alleviate pinched nerves and other problems of the spine. It was expected to become available in Europe this year, a significant step in eventually coming to the U.S. market.
The full KBA board still must decide whether to approve the recommendation; it plans a Jan. 23-24 meeting.
State lawmakers created the KBA in 2004 to oversee a $581 million pot of tax dollars aimed at expanding and promoting the biotechnology and life sciences industry in Kansas.
