Following Spine Surgery Fellowship, Dr. Kuris Returns to University Orthopedics

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (August 18, 2020) — University Orthopedics is happy to welcome Dr. Eren Kuris back into the UOI family after a year away completing a Spine Surgery Fellowship.

Dr. Kuris spent the last year at the University of Colorado as a Spine Surgery Fellow, concentrating specifically on complex spinal conditions. As part of the UOI team, he will treat all aspects of spinal care, including degenerative conditions such as disc degeneration, disc herniations, and spinal arthritis; spine deformities; spine trauma; and spine infections.

As the leader of comprehensive orthopedic care in the region, UOI is committed to providing enhanced outcomes for all patients experiencing acute and chronic pain and injury. Dr. Kuris’ expertise in not one, but two, sub-specialities helps ensure UOI patients continue to receive the highest quality orthopedic care available.

“We know first-hand the caliber of clinician we are getting in Dr. Kuris and are thrilled he has decided to bring his knowledge and experience back to UOI,” said Edward Akelman, M.D., President of University Orthopedics. “Just like all of the clinicians in our practice, Dr. Kuris is committed to a higher-level of patient care. His dedication to enhanced patient outcomes will make him a valued member of our team.”

“Spine surgery is a very dynamic field. We have made significant advances in recent years with regard to our overall understanding of spinal pathology and alignment and the methods and technologies we have to treat spine conditions, which will lead to improved patient outcomes,” Dr. Kuris said. “I am thrilled to be returning to Rhode Island and UOI and look forward to having a positive impact on my patients’ quality of life.”

Dr. Kuris completed both his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency and an Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship at Brown University’s Warren Alpert School of Medicine, where he currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedics. He holds both an undergraduate and medical degree from Tulane University. Additionally, he is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), the North American Spine Society (NASS), and the Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA). He serves on two committees for NASS (the SpinePAC Advisory Committee and the Political Engagement Committee) and is the Spine Section Editor for the 5th edition of the OTA’s Core Curriculum.

Dr. Kuris lives in Providence with his fiancé and two dogs. He is rejoining UOI on August 24 and will be based at UOI’s Kettle Point location.
